Seeing the light: smart glasses bring shapely vision to blind people

A scientist has used a combination of cameras to process objects as bright light and allow blind people to sense them

But for what he describes as "super luck", Dr Stephen Hicks could very easily have found himself lugging plasma TV screens up the staircases of apartment buildings.


As it turned out, the Australian scientist, who was in need of money in 2007, landed a job that was the first step in the creation of elaborate "smart glasses" which claim to have the potential to give people with sight loss the chance to recognise everyday objects and people again.
